Member Monday - Featuring: Mackenzie Cohn!

Meet... Mackenzie “Island Queen” Cohn

All things Cape Harmony!

Q: What made you come back to Cape Harmony for a third summer?

A: “Really it was the fact that I could. It seemed like everything fell into place for me to come back. Sometimes the universe does weird things… also why would I ever pass this up?”

Q: What have been some of your goals for Cape Harmony since you run social media?

A: “At the end of last summer we hit 3,000 likes on FB and that was pretty cool. I spent some of my year doing social media for my dad’s business and saw how much it grew and helped him first hand. I figured that more social media traction couldn’t hurt CH, so I made a goal to hit 4,000 likes by the end of the summer. We ended up getting about 800 likes in 2 months in order to hit 4,000 at the end of June.”

Q: When not at the CH house, where are some of your favorite places on the Cape to go?

A: “Obviously the beach. Especially the little beach in our neighborhood because it’s so convenient. But, outside of Cape Harmony I just really really love Martha’s Vineyard.”

Q: How do you feel about this being your last summer in Cape Harmony?

A: “Obviously it is something that I never want to end because it is the dream job, but it is so special and to see growth from when you started to where it is going. It’s a very personal experience, and one that you can’t get anywhere else. I see a lot of myself in the new members, and I want to allow someone else to have the experience I did in being able to grow.

Q: What have you learned about yourself having been in Cape Harmony for three summers?

A: “I’m such a different person from when I started. I really don’t know if I could put it into words. But what i do know is that the things i’ve learned from cape harmony have given me the most clear idea of the person I want to be in the world, and the impact i want to have. *sings song from Wicked and bawls*”

More about Mackenzie!

Q: What “old person” things do you do?

A: “Sometimes I groan when I’m stretching or getting up, but that also might just be me being loud. I’m also really good at being the group mom. Maybe I just think about things in an old person way because I am the oldest in the group.”

Q: What is the most delicious food you have ever eaten?

A: “Are you kidding me I love food! A few years ago, my family went to NYC and we went to some restaurant and I got butternut squash risotto with arugula, beets and some other stuff. It was unreal.”

Q: If you had to create an obstacle course out of the three hardest things for you to do, personally, what would it be?

A: “Making decisions, containing my excitement, and pullups.”

Q: Do you know any riddles?

A: “What is the difference between a cat and a comma? One has claws at the end of its paws. The other is a clause at the end of a pause.”

Q: If someone narrated your life, who would you want it to be?

A: “J.K. Rowling, I don’t know what she sounds like when she speaks. But if she was involved in my life in any way I would fall over and die.”

Q: What movie quotes do you use on a regular basis?

A: “I feel like I quote Disney movies more than anything. In middle school I was able to recite the entirety of Lilo and Stitch. Oh and The Little Rascals.”

Q: What was the last song you had stuck in your head?

A: “It’s not a song, it's a warm up called ‘piccolo mini’, which we first did for the first time about four days ago, and I had just gotten out of my head until we did it again this morning.”

Q: What is the funniest word in the English language?

A: “My gut says giggle, because it brings me happiness. But I feel like I should say something like kerfuffle.”

Q: What is your favorite smell?

A: “Campfire because I grew up camping, and also had a firepit in my backyard. So it reminds me of summer nights, silliness and home.”

Q: What food could you eat everyday and not get tired of?

A: “My mom's potato salad! Even my boyfriend who is not the biggest potato salad fan loves it. It’s magical and so is she.”
