Member Mondays - Featuring: Rachel Rubin!
Meet…Rachel “Ruby Tuesday” Rubin!
All things Cape Harmony!
Q: How did you hear about Cape Harmony?
A: “Stephanie Weymouth (hey, Steph) was in my collegiate a cappella group. She was in Cape Harmony the summer before my freshman year and always talked about it. I wouldn’t say she made me audition for Cape Harmony, but she was pretty adamant about how awesome it was.”
Q: What’s your pre-show routine?
A: “I usually eat whatever dinner or snack I brought with me, then just sit and wait, warm up a little bit, and steal Justine’s tic tacs.”
Q: What’s your favorite thing about Cape Harmony?
A: “I honestly love so many aspects of it. I love singing and making music, obviously. Everyone in the group is so fun and passionate, and I feel like we’re always laughing. I love that we genuinely have a great time performing and singing together, or just hanging out.”
Q: What’s the biggest obstacle you’ve faced while in Cape Harmony?
A: “I think at first, it was being confident. I consider myself a pretty confident person when it comes to singing, or being musical in general, but because everyone in Cape Harmony is so talented, it made me question what I could bring to the table that’s unique. I already feel like I’ve grown a lot just by being in a group of such talented women.”
Q: What’s your dream for Cape Harmony?
A: “Ultimately, I just want us to be successful and happy. I’m all about promoting the business and getting people to our shows, but I think the most important thing is that we’re all having a good time doing it. If we don’t love what we do, we definitely can’t expect other people to love it.”
More about Rachel!
Q: What was your dream job growing up?
A: “I wanted to be a marine biologist in like, 6th grade. I really don't like science, and I'm not very good at it. I just thought seals were really cute."
Q: What’s your hidden talent?
A: “I paint canvas shoes, so people tell me what they want and I paint them on shoes and sell them. I can also make car sounds with my mouth, but I think shoes is cooler.”
Q: Where do you see yourself in 15 years?
A: “Oh geez, I’ll be 35. I want to be settled down in a small town...somewhere I can raise a family. I hope I have a job that I’m happy to go to every day. Two kids eventually. And dogs. I’m gonna have so many dogs.”
Q: Describe your last visit to the dentist.
A: “It was to get my teeth cleaned a while ago, and the woman who was doing it talked literally the entire time. I think she was so distracted by her own talking that she wasn’t really paying attention and was getting fluoride paste all over my face, like in my eyes and all over, pretty much everywhere but my mouth.”
Q: If you were a potato chip, what flavor would you be?
A: “Something sweet with a kick. Like…cinnamon sugar with cayenne pepper. That actually sounds so good.”
Q: What inspires you?
A: “Passionate people. I think that most of the time, really passionate people make things happen no matter what, ‘cause they’re ‘go-getters.’ They’re always the most dedicated and the most driven, which is definitely something I aspire to be.”
Q: What’s the first song you remember singing?
A: “'Puff the Magic Dragon.' My family used to play Peter, Paul, and Mary tapes in the car. I definitely still know the words to a bunch of those songs.”
Q: What’s the weirdest thing in your purse?
A: “Sun screen. That’s not even weird, but I have to take it everywhere ‘cause I burn in like 2 seconds.”
Q: How would you describe your perfect day?
A: “So, I guess…this is so hard! I would want it to be nice enough outside that I could spend time outside, and I would definitely want to have a nice meal, probably sushi… and if my perfect day had a budget, I would go shopping. Then I’d probably spend the rest of the day just hanging out, either with my family or with friends. I just think my perfect day, even if I was busy doing things, wouldn’t be stressful at all.”
Q: In the movie of your life, who would play you?
A: “Zoeey Deschanel, but half Zoeey from New Girl and half Zoeey from Elf. A little weird and goofy, but also super sassy. Plus she sings.”

We kicked off July with a bang (not just fireworks!) and are so excited for what we have coming up on our agenda. This Wednesday we have a very special show at the Cotuit Federated Church. We'll be performing with the men of The Vineyard Sound at 7:30! They don't come to the mainland very often, so you don't want to miss it. We also have a joint show at St. Christopher's on Main St, Chatham with The Hyannis Sound this coming Saturday! We're so excited about both of these shows and hope to see some friendly faces in the audience.
Thanks for reading this week's Member Monday post! Keep up with us here and on social media to see what we're up to.
